Florida Will Try To Decriminalize Cannabis
Marijuana addiction is becoming a very serious problem in sunny Florida. Currently, Florida has some of the Nation’s strictest laws regarding marijuana. In fact, many times a person can be charged with a felony for having enough marijuana on them. It is currently being argued if the strict laws in Florida are doing anything to curtail the drug. If you suspect you have an addiction to marijuana it is wise to seek out a marijuana detox facility.
In recent years, states like California, Nevada, and Colorado have all passed laws decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana. However, in Florida the resolution is relatively new. There are many ongoing debates about the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana. Some people think it would be great for the economy to tax marijuana. Others think it would spell disaster for our society if we legalized the drug.
Opponents of marijuana legalization maintain the position that the current laws are working just fine. They proclaim that the laws stem abuse and addiction to marijuana, lowers the crime rate, and avoids having the door opened to legalizing more serious drugs in the future. However, there arguments are generally based on outdated or incomplete statistics. Some people also view marijuana as a gateway drug and think it leads to harder drug addictions. Although this is believed there is little evidence that backs this claim.
Benefits To Legalization
As more and more Florida residents look at other states that have decriminalized marijuana, they see them collecting an incredible amount of extra tax revenue. Also, these states are saving large sums of money on law enforcement. However, it is yet to be seen how legalizing marijuana can effect a community in the long run. As more and more Florida residents start talking about the possible benefits of legalizing marijuana it is becoming increasingly clear that both sides have valid arguments.
Already, groups all over the state are gathering signatures and filling petitions for the House and Senate in Florida to take a vote on the bills that were submitted regarding medical marijuana. It does not appear the law makers will be able to ignore this much longer. One way or another, it appears that the laws in Florida dealing with marijuana are going to change.
The debate over whether or not to decriminalize marijuana in Florida is becoming quite contentious. Both sides feel strongly that their positions are correct. However, a big part of the problem is that marijuana can be viewed as a gateway drug. Meaning that those, especially young people, who partake in marijuana may develop addictions to harder drugs. This is why it’s important that if you or someone you know is suffering from a pot abuse or any other addiction, it is important to get to a pot detox facility as soon as you can. The side effects of a detox can be very dangerous, and you should only undergo a detox with the help of a medical professional.
